Directions From I-4:
Exit onto Hwy. 535 and head south.
Follow 535 to Poinciana Blvd. Turn right (south) onto Poinciana Blvd.
Follow Poinciana Blvd. approximately 15 miles until you reach the intersection
of Poinciana Blvd. and Pleasant Hill Road. Turn right onto Pleasant Hill Rd.
Approximately 1/2 mile, turn left onto Old Pleasant Hill Road. To make this
turn, you’ll need to enter a left-hand turning lane. Watch for these landmarks:
a sign for Old Pleasant Hill Rd., a green sign reading "The Nature Conservancy,"
and a large Poinciana sign on stone work — all are on the right-hand side of the
road opposite of the turn.
After turning left, go a 1/2 mile to Scrub Jay Trail.
Turn left and follow Scrub Jay Trail to The Nature Conservancy’s Conservation
Learning Center. (If you miss the left turn onto Old Pleasant Hill Rd, turn
left onto Dover Plum Ave, right on Pleasant Hill Rd, and left onto Scrub Jay
Trail.)
Why the Conservancy Selected This Site
The preserve was established in 1992 through the cooperative actions of The Walt
Disney Company, Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, The Nature Conservancy and
several public agencies.
What the Conservancy Has Done/Is Doing
The Conservancy manages the preserve for native plants and animals. Conservancy
land managers fill ditches to restore wetlands. Staff and volunteers conduct
prescribed burns and remove invasive, non-native plants to improve uplands, and
scientists monitor restored areas to ensure that restoration is successful. The
preserve serves as a place where people from all walks of life can come together
to learn and exchange knowledge about how to be good stewards of our natural
environment.
